When You Have No Words

I don’t know about you, but there have been so many times I have found myself in situations where I simply have no words to adequately express myself. Either I’ve let my emotions get the better of me, I’m distracted, I allow fear to block my words, or I lack understanding or wisdom about a particular situation. The wonderful thing is, God provides the words we need in every situation. All we need to do is ask Him to speak through us to the person or the situation.

Giving ourselves to God in prayer allows Him to work out every detail of our lives.  You see, God knows our hearts! He knows everything about us—everything we have or will experience. When we don’t know what we need or even how to ask for it, God puts the words in our minds and hearts. We might feel a void or an expectation, and what we need is God’s revelation to bring us clarity and truth. God constantly reveals Himself to us through nature, prophetic dreams, books, business acquaintances, friends, or family. All we have to do is open our eyes and ears to His revelations.

If you find your Spirit dry and your heart suffering from a feeling of separation, ask God to give you the words to sing out praises and thanks. When I’ve done this, the joy that almost always follows is overwhelming. When someone questions my faith and I don’t have the words to answer adequately, I immediately pray that God put the words in my mouth that will reveal His love and understanding. If a loved one or fellow believer is suffering and my words of encouragement seem weak and ineffective, I pray that God’s Word flow from my mouth to that person’s heart—that He would give them the peace and comfort needed for healing and restoration.

The Bible teaches us that God is always there with us no matter the situation. Isaiah 41:10 NIV says, So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Knowing this gives me great comfort. Isn’t it wonderful to know we never have to worry that we’ll say the wrong thing? We can share the gospel, our faith, and our testimony without fear! God’s words will always be the right ones to say, and his prompting will be in His perfect timing. When we are one with God, it is no longer our voice but God’s, and he doesn’t make mistakes.

What a wonder when we are able to set aside all that blocks God’s Word from coming forth and become a living testimony to His love for us. Open yourself to speak His truths and reveal His miracles. The words God speaks through you will come with great power and bring with them untold blessings!
