How many of us have repeatedly made worldly New Year’s resolutions, like “I will lose 20 pounds this year” or “I will search for a better job or seek a promotion this year?” Not that these resolutions aren’t worthy of our attention, but what about making some New Year’s resolutions that resonate with God, such as:
- I will set aside time with God every day.
- I will study His Word every day.
- I will develop an intimate relationship with God and be bold in my faith.
- I will enter into God’s Glory, surrendering my heart to Him.
- I will put God first in all I think, say, and do.
- I will honor God above all else.
The Bible is clear about what God says is most important. In Mark 12:30-31 NIV it says, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: “Love your neighbor as yourself: There is no commandment greater than these.” Why not try making this our New Year’s resolution in 2024?
It’s time our New Year’s resolutions reflect God’s presence in our lives. After all, there will always be something we want to do to look and feel better, like losing those unwanted 20 pounds. We will always have our eyes on achieving greater success, right? However, these things are only temporary. Loving God and others promises a lifelong change that resonates with His Word and changes us into a new creation forever—not just for 2024. In Ephesians 4:22-24 NIV it says, You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.
This is my New Year’s resolution. How about you? Will you make this year’s resolutions resonate with God and claim His righteousness and holiness as you put on your new self in Him?
