Change Begins with Prayer

God does not want you to believe many of the world’s beliefs, and one of the biggest ones is this: “The Best Predictor of Your Future is Your Past.” You are not your past. Leave your past in the past and move into the future with God. In 2 Corinthians 5:17 NIV, God’s truth tells us this: Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come. The old has gone, the new is here! Unless you ditch the past, forgive, and forget everything you’ve done, said, or believed, it will be impossible for you to accept all God’s blessings in this new life He has planned for you. However, change begins with prayer. Prayer opens the door to God. He stands waiting for your prayers to welcome him into your heart. Honestly, it’s that simple! Just ask Him to come into your heart and show you how to surrender your past and step into the future.

Why is it that we make our prayers so complicated? We don’t pray because we let the guilt of our sinful ways stand between us and God. Tell me—when did God ever say he only accepted the perfect? No—God sent His Son for sinners. In 1 Timothy 1:15 NIV, God gives a message to Timothy for His people: Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners—of whom I am the worst. Or, we don’t pray because we have too much to do, and there is no time left over for God. That’s the problem, though, isn’t it? We are only giving God our leftovers. The Bible tells us what God wants of us in Luke 10:27 NIV. He answered, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’

Guess what happens when you learn to surrender all to God—when you choose to put him first in your life. In 2 Corinthians 9:8 NIV, says, And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. Isn’t it time you stop worrying about whether you’re good enough for your Creator? He knows everything about your past. He doesn’t care. He wants your future. He wants you to come to Him just as you are, with all your baggage, and trust Him to give you a new beginning. If you are sick of carrying all that baggage, give it to God. Trust in Him. That’s why He sent His Son to die for our sins. Open the door of your heart and invite Him to dwell there. Isn’t it great to know that with God, you never have to be alone? What a blessing to know that God knows everything about us and loves us still.

I know most believers know this in their minds, but God wants you to feel His presence, know how awesome His love is, and realize your past life has nothing to do with His future plans for you.
