The Bible says in Proverbs 16:16 NIV, How much better to get wisdom than gold, to get insight rather than silver! We pray for our finances, health, and protection, but somehow, we’ve forgotten one of God’s most valuable gifts—wisdom! In many cases, if we simply prayed for God’s wisdom and applied it to circumstances in our lives, it would lead to greater financial freedom, better health, and the confidence that comes with knowing the Lord will watch over and protect us. All we have to do is ask! In James 1:5 NIV, His Word gives us this assurance: If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.
God’s wisdom comes to those who fear Him. Fearing God doesn’t mean to shake in our boots when we hear His name. Fearing God means we know and love Him, read and study His Word, spend time in prayer, and trust His instructions so that we can learn to apply His wisdom every day. We need God’s wisdom to realize the bigger picture for our futures—a clear vision of God’s plan. We cannot rely on our natural wisdom because it can be flawed and incomplete. God’s wisdom comes from a place of total knowledge—given from pure love and perfect understanding.
By returning His love and respecting His instructions, we begin to embrace His wisdom. I emphasize “begin” because gaining wisdom from God often happens over time and through past experiences that God uses to impact and influence future decisions. So, be patient! Accept and appreciate the wisdom God gives you in the little things that will enable you to hear and obey His wisdom in the more important issues. God tells us in Luke 16:10 NIV, Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much. The choice is ours! Choose WISELY!
